Everybody has that moment; when you have a closet full of amazing clothes, but you still have "nothing to wear". That may be because you don't have your closet essentials. Everybody's must-haves are different depending on your style. But, I'll go through some of my wardrobe essentials. Remember, these are just a guide. The styles are completely up to your preferences.
1. White tee shirt
The basic of all basics, the white tee is a must have in every closet. It's super versatile and a wonderful blank canvas for some stellar outfits.
2. Black turtleneck
This is the white tee shirt's pair. The black turtleneck (or mock-neck), is great if you want a darker color palette for your look. Plus, turtlenecks are literally born for layering and are a lifesaver when you see the colder months ahead.
3. Hoodies
I'm not kidding when I say you need hoodies (notice the plural, because the more the merrier). And if you're like me and loves to keep their hoodies on, it's important to invest in quite a few so you don't look like you wear the same thing all the time.
4. Denim/leather jacket
I love denim jackets. They're so versatile and can be worn to dress down a summer dress. And a little tip for shopping outerwear; always size up. This gives you extra room grow, layer up, and move around which is especially helpful with stiffer fabrics like denim and leather. One basic I don't have is a leather jacket, but it's on my wish list!
5. Little patterned dress
The little patterned dress, or LPD, is a must have. With the rise of the cottagecore aesthetic, people have been sporting flowy, patterned dress everywhere.
6. Black leggings
I live in leggings. They're comfy and easy to wear, so it meets my requirements. A pair of black leggings has always been in my wardrobe and it's going to stay that way.
7. Timeless jeans
When I'm not feeling my leggings, jeans are the other option. You should try to get a pair of jeans that will always stay in style. I might write another post on how to find the perfect jeans later. My suggestion for timeless jeans are a straight leg, maybe slightly tapered, high waisted, and a medium to dark wash with no rips.
8. Simple flats
You always need a pair of dressier shoes than your sneakers. They don't need to be super fancy, so I opt for flats. I've actually been seeing some really pretty square toe flats, but that's up to you.
9. Black boots
Black boots are a must. People think there's just one kind, but in reality, black boots are a whole section in the fashion world.
10. Denim shorts
Again, this is more of a summer thing, but a major thing. My denim shorts are pretty much the only thing I wear in the summer.
