Hello and welcome back to The Extravagant! I'm super excited for Halloween this year, and I'm trying to get some themed content out. So, I present to you, Halloween costumes cool girls are going to be this year. They're all school and weather appropriate for those of you like me. Let's get started!
Gotham City Sirens - DC
A great group costume would be Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman. I have to say I'm a bigger Marvel fan than DC, but in terms of character designs DC is the clear winner. They usually wear pretty scandalous clothing, but there are so many ways to tone it down. Wearing tights in the character's color as well as a bomber jacket for Harley and a turtleneck for Poison Ivy will warm it up.
Evelyn Hugo - The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
I was going to put Marilyn Monroe, but it was kind of basic. To make sure only fellow cool girls know who you are, go as Evelyn Hugo from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It's better for brown girls and is a costume to get all the book-tok girls frothing at the mouth. A fur jacket or stole like in the picture, paired with green opera gloves will keep you nice and toasty.
Max Mayfield - Stranger Things
I have a feeling that Max from Stranger Things is going to be a popular one this year because of her fate in season 4. All you need is a casual outfit in primary colors. Or, you can be depressed Max and wear dark colors with headphones. It's easily recognizable and warm.
Odette and Odile - Swan Lake
There can be many different interpretations of this theme. It could be the Tchaikovsky ballet, classic and elegant. Barbie in Swan Lake is girly and fantastical. The movie Black Swan is edgy and thriller, a more scary take on it. Ballerinas aren't known for wearing warm outfits, so you can make it warm with a thin long-sleeve top in black or white, and skin colored tights under colored ones.
Eddie Munson - Stranger Things
Another Stranger Things costume idea is the late Eddie Munson. If you have the hair, you can be Eddie, but if not, any other person in Hellfire would be just as great. I'm calling it early, everyone this year is going to Eddie. And with the leather jacket and vest combo, it'll already be warm.
Margot Robbie - Barbie
Margot Robbie's Barbie has caused quite a stir in the Barbieverse, so what better way to get excited, albeit several months in advance, than dressing up as her! There are many different routes to take on this one, but my favorite has to be the Western Barbie look. Micarah Tewers's tutorial for the set is linked here. If Margot has anything, it's range. A pink denim jacket in the same color would be such a cool way to keep it October-appropriate.
Bratz dolls
If you have a sense of style similar to the Bratz dolls, and easy one could just be becoming one of them. You could just wear a cool outfit and do their makeup, and you'll be set. But can we appreciate these outfits? Like why do four hunks of plastic have better style than me?
School Uniforms
I know the last thing you want to be thinking of on Halloween is school, but there are just so many movies, books, and shows that take place at school. Harry Potter, The Umbrella Academy, Dead Poet's Society, The Craft, Mean Girls, Clueless, Gilmore Girls, Barbie: Princess Charm School, and plenty more that I just can't think of at the moment all take place at school.
Olivia Rodrigo
SOUR is old news (in my opinion), but Olivia Rodrigo is still a fun choice. My advice if you were to do this, is to choose one of her newer music video looks, like Brutal. Or, you can make an outfit inspired by her Met look with shimmery purple makeup and butterfly accessories.
Kate Sharma - Bridgerton
Bridgerton has become so ingrained in pop-culture at this point, it's all the internet can talk about for the month after it's released. It's definitely a high-effort costume, but would definitely pay off. All you need is an empire-waist dress and matching accessories. Wear your hair natural and sweep it in an elegant up-do.
El - Stranger Things
This is the third Stranger Things character on this list, so you can say I'm obsessed. El has so many iconic looks throughout the series, it'll be hard to choose one. You could a throwback with season 1's fit, a nostalgic season 3 Battle of Starcourt, or her memorable milkshake dress. Her outfit at the end of season 4 is pretty accessible and can be found in one Target trip. However, if I would do it, I would choose season 2's overall and sweater, or her punk look. One's cute and one is cute and a bit terrifying.
Emily - Corpse Bride
I just read the summary on Wikipedia and I am both concerned and intrigued. Nevertheless, the Corpse Bride is an oldie but a goodie. It's not done enough to be overdone, but the childhood nostalgia of a time before I was born comforts many. It's a really fun costume.
Persephone - Lore Olympus
On the theme of colored skin, another good option is Persephone from the webtoon Lore Olympus. She has so many amazing looks, and the creator of the comic knows her fashion. One of the most recognizable looks would probably her Queen Perse look. Besides the paint, you'll need the dress, gloves, and the crown. Red contacts would be the finishing touch.
Rockstar
A bit generic, I know, but good as a last minute idea. The surge of the aesthetic is making want to just tour the country with my band as the lead guitar and vocalist and get a shag cut. But not all dreams can come true, sadly. I want to do a post on this look, so comment down below if you would like that!
Monster High girls - Monster High
I wasn't going to include this at first, but then I saw that Spirit Halloween just put up Monster High costumes on their website. So if you want an easy, albeit expensive costume, just buy it from there!
That's it for this week! Comment down below what you're being this Halloween. Mine's a secret for now, but you'll get to know soon. Until then, make sure to like, subscribe, and spread the word. See you guys next week!
