Hello and welcome back to blogmas day 3. Today, I'm styling "old" trends and trends that are declining. As a 13 year old with no source of income, I can't just magically whip up the money to buy from brands that 100% ethical and sustainable. But part of sustainability is re-wearing items you already have and being aware of how much you're buying. I tried to use basics that a lot of people have to create these outfits.
Table of contents:
Tie-front cardigans
Skinny jeans
Milkmaid tops
Sweater vests
Pleated plaid skirts
These cardigans are usually worn in a basic soft-girl style with just jeans and a headband, but the goal was to try something different. I went for Parisian chic meets TikTok girl. The tights add a fun touch of personality. Putting the slip over the cardigan instead of under it was also an interesting way to change it up. Overall, this is pretty easy to recreate if you switch out the tights with solid black and the heels to black boots.
This outfit is making me reconsider the position of skinny jeans in my closet. It's giving cool racecar driver, but make it subdued. The denim-on-denim and Diesel vest gives it that current element without overtaking the jeans. I'm super proud of this one!
The first outfit is a bit of that alternative-preppy style I've been seeing a lot on Pinterest. The top is sweet and girly, the black slip is classy, the belt is edgy, and the loafers are preppy. The mixed aesthetics can really showcase one's personal style.
The second one is way simpler, one that you could wear to just stroll around Princeton or wear to school. Anyone with jeans can recreate it. Overall, I'm pretty happy with these!
I went back to the basics for this styling of a sweater vest. In real life, I usually style it like a fashionable school uniform, so I wanted to do some experimenting. I used the same jeans from before for a nice base. The plaid can be interpreted in flannels, shackets, printed mock-necks, wool scarves, etc. I kept it simple with accessories, just adding Doc Martens and the messenger bag.
We're ending off with styling a pleated plaid skirt. I know they're definitely not not trendy, but I can see their end in mainstream fashion. People will eventually gravitate towards new styles. I wanted to style it in a 2010s-tumblr-girl way, but make it trendy.
I put on the tights and Arctic Monkeys shirt, and I think I could've seen the exact outfit on tumblr if I was a functioning person in 2014. I added the arm warmers and messenger bag, which are trendy but still go with the vibe. The thing that really modernizes the outfit are the Miu Miu ballet flats. Ideally, everything would be in a black-red-navy color scheme. But you get what I'm trying to convey.
That's it for today! If you have any comments, the comment section exists for a reason. Are there any other old trends you would like me to restyle? These were pretty easy ones, but I could definitely go deeper into 2010s trends. I want to focus on sustainability that's still achievable, so you'll see more posts with similar topics soon.
Make sure to like, subscribe, and spread the word. See you tomorrow!
