Trends that have become staples in my wardrobe

Hello and welcome back to The Extravagant! This week we have a post that I'm really excited for. Laini Ozark did this, and I wanted to do my take on it. It's "trends that aren't trendy anymore". I'm sharing the trends that have become so ingrained in my style that now, they're closet staples. The point is to show you that you don't have to stop wearing trends as soon as they are no longer trendy.

Starting off, we have athleisure! Athleisure is "basic" and a bit boring at times. However, with my lifestyle (a middle school girl who regularly goes outside and does a healthy amount of physical activity), athletic wear as everyday wear is a good portion of my wardrobe. I would love to do an athleisure post on ways you can make it your style.

items I love:

  • baby tees

  • sweat-suits

  • sneakers

  • track pants

  • leggings

  • baseball caps

There has been a lot of speculation about the 2010's tumblr girl coming back. I was born in '09, so I never got to experience the decade with a fully conscious brain. The only thing I really remember about it is shoulder-cut-everything. But I love artists like MARINA, Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey, and others who seemed to have peaked then. Plus, my sister once told me that she thought I would have liked it. So hopefully, it comes back.

items I love:

  • converse

  • chokers

  • pleated plaid skirt

  • high waisted/mom jeans

  • denim jackets

  • mini backpacks

  • hounds-tooth

  • lock necklaces

This isn't really an outdated trend, but there are some versions of it that are. For example, the turtleneck-under-slip-dresses versus dress-over-pants-combo. One is dated, one is trendy, both are loved by yours truly. My ideology is the more layers, the better it looks.

looks I love:

  • turtlenecks with slip dresses

  • dresses and skirts over flared pants

  • a gazillion belts over corsets

  • sheer and crochet pieces

  • legwarmers, long socks, and mismatched tights

  • thin cardigans underneath jackets

  • big sweaters cinched with a corset-belt

I love jewelry trends because they're a fun and cheap way to update an old look. I think they also tend to go in and out faster, since they're so small. On my wishlist currently are organic, uncultured pearls and gold rings in organic shapes. Now that I'm think about it, I can do a whole jewelry post if you guys are into it, but it probably won't come out anytime soon.

items I love:

  • safety pin earrings

  • pearls

  • chunky colorful rings

  • antique jewelry

  • hoop earrings

  • beaded necklaces

Just like jewelry, accessories come and go quickly. They can make or break an outfit, as well as date an outfit. In order to keep your looks fresh, you have to keep your accessories and jewelry fresh. But there are a few things that I know I'll love for at least a couple more years.

items I love:

  • a corset belt

  • beaded sneakers

  • headscarves

  • tote bags

  • messenger bags

  • opera gloves

  • 70s sunglasses

That's it for today! It was pretty short, but it's just to show that even if something isn't trendy, you can still like it. For example, I got my first sweater vest just this September. Comment down below something that you'll never let go of, as well as any suggestions for the blog. Make sure to like, subscribe, and spread the word. See you soon!
