9 Trends I'm Skipping This Summer (And 9 To Replace Them)

Hello and welcome back to The Extravagant! I know it's been a bit since I last posted, since I was a little busy. Anyways, today you'll be reading about 9 trends I'll be skipping out on and some alternatives. Not all of these are actually unfashionable, it's just my preference. So, let's get to it!
Retiring: Faux fur
Bringing out: Faux leather
Even though I do love my faux fur, it's more of a winter accessory. This spring and summer, every fashion girl is rocking faux leather (Note: many people say that faux leather is a more sustainable alternative to actual leather. It's actually about the same since faux leather is just a treated layer of plastic).
Retiring: Super-short shorts
Bringing out: Mid thigh shorts
I'm actually super happy that mid-thigh shorts are back in style because they are just so much easier to wear! I think it helps that they aren't low-rise.
Retiring: Shell Jewelry
Bringing out: Colorful Jewelry
Remember the time when VSCO girls were trendy and not ridiculed? (Nothing against saving the environment, it's just annoying when you adopt the "pick-me" girl attitude along with it.) Naturally, puka shell jewelry is out and the fun, beaded ones are in.
Retiring: Neon
Bringing out: Bubblegum pink
I used to be a neon fan until I realized that I didn't want to look like a highlighter. Instead, I prefer colors that are still bright but not off-putting, like bubblegum pink and kelly green.
Retiring: Knit dresses
Bringing out: Slip dresses
Since winter is long over, it's time to ditch everything knit (except for rib knit and terrycloth, those are in). You can see the 90s aesthetic peek through today's fashion trends once more because slip dresses are now all the rage!
Retiring: Straw totes
Bringing out: Baguette bags
I must admit, I was never a fan of the boho-style totes. I much rather be wearing a baguette bag in a fun color.
Retiring: Rompers
Bringing out: Dresses and skirts
I do love the look of some rompers, but they are hard to find. Most are very unflattering if you can't find the perfect fit. So, I'm glad to announce that summer dresses and skirts are a stylish and comfortable alternative.
Retiring: Complicated ties
Bringing out: Detached sleeves
Detached sleeves have been spotted all over the runway, stores, and people! Even I have contributed by making a one-shoulder top and detached sleeve set out of an old top.
Retiring: Utility vests
Bringing out: Sweater vests
I have never been a huge fan of the vest trend, from utility to puffer vests. But the sweater vest grew on me, and now I love it!
Retiring: Argyle
Bringing out: Checkerboard
Argyle is stylish if it's the "Main-character-from-a-90s-movie" way, but I personally favor pieces with the checkerboard design better.
