holiday outfits to manifest a less depressing winter break

Updated: Dec 16, 2021

Hello and welcome back to The Extravagant! Today we have some looks for the holidays, as promised. However, instead of using pictures online, I actually dressed up and showed you guys what I'm wearing. It's more realistic that way. That being said, ignore the badly edited photos of moi and let's get started!

christmas brunch (a.k.a. my halloween costume recycled)

For Halloween this year, I dressed up as a witch, using stuff I already had or made. Today I'm wearing the same exact thing, except skipping on the more costume-y elements like the velvet cape, witch hat, and the fake dagger with an eleven inch blade tied to my waist with a green ribbon. I kept the basics, so just this long floral skirt, black long-sleeve, and corset belt. Will I end up actually wearing this to a Christmas brunch? Probably not. But life is just a big show-and-tell, so who cares?

a night @ nyc

This is one of the more casual outfits. I'm wearing my favorite black jeans, baseball tee (though I have never watched a single game in my life), and my sister's ex bomber jacket in the totally real golden hour sunset. Fun story, I borrowed it for another outfit in secret, but she saw me and just told me I could keep it! it will definitely be getting good wear. The majority of my outfits, especially in the colder months, have black in them, so this will be perfect. I really hope we go to New York this year, and if we do, I will actually be wearing this!

Receiving an Oscar though you have never been in a movie in your life

I cited my source for the joke, okay? My reading teacher would be proud. Aside from that, I'm wearing this tank top, my favorite (and only) pair of slacks, and the long-sleeve underneath so I don't freeze to death. Living on the upper east coast, I think I've mastered the art of dressing for cold and heat. So if you would like a post on that, comment down below!

ice skating

I've only gone ice skating a few times in my life, so I can get on ice without face planting right into it and breaking my nose. This outfit is a very romanticized version of what I would wear if ice skating rinks weren't so damn cold. Like, I really don't get how the Olympic athletes wear less than a yard of thin fabric in total and don't die of frostbite before they compete. But back to the look, I'm wearing houndstooth skirt and white tights to give off the skater vibes, along with a pink square neck top, the bomber jacket from earlier, and, wait for it... my black mock-neck! Believe me when I say that it's really been a lifesaver for winter.

New Year’s Eve

I'm not one of those people who go all out for the new year. Most of my festive-ness went with Christmas, so when that's over, I really couldn't care less. But you can't just show up to a party is sweats, so I conjured this look. A black base with white as the focal color, with the dress and DIY'd detached sleeves. I'll make a mini post about detached sleeves because I'm currently writing this at 9:22 pm the day I want it to post, so maybe another time. I love this look and I want a chance to wear it sometime!

pov: it's an hour before your winter concert and you're trying to figure out what to wear

This is more or less what I actually wore to my orchestra concert, but it actually worked! I have this amazing velvet babydoll dress that I belted at the waist to look cooler. I'll make a mini post about this look because I'm kind of in a rush to finish, but it'll come sometime this week. This dress would be so cool as a top, so I'll try that out sometime.

a chill party with friends

For more casual parties with my "home" friends or my friends where I live, I obviously want to dress more casual. At parties, I tend to stick out (at least I think I do) either by overdressing or underdressing, but in a cool way. So today, I wore my mock-neck with a tank top to break up the ribbing, a plaid skirt, and this crochet cardigan. I wore this to school today and I am in love!

christmas shopping!!!

I don't think that I'm the only person who loves holiday shopping. I like window shopping more, because when you go in without any intention of buying anything, you aren't disappointed when you don't find anything good. But just the vibes of big malls at Christmas, with all the lights and wreaths and trees, with the candy cane banners and festive food flavors, while listening to all the winter classics while buying gifts for everyone... that it a truly special feeling. I wore my blue jeans and plaid cardigan for this look, along with the black base I've been using for the other outfits. I would totally wear this out sometime!

So that concludes this post! As you can see, all of these outfits are very classic ones, so you can still wear them after Christmas. It's been fun to blog after so long, and I can't wait to get back into my routine. Stay tuned for some for posts and see you next week!
